Making greens taste great

This article follows the article The Power of Green Leaves where I explain how and why green leaves support optimal health.

Here is a few ideas for some simple, delicious and practical ways to add greens to your diet.

Smoothies
You can consume large amounts in fruit smoothies. Add a sweet fruit to a green smoothie, such as pineapple, pear or mango – this will literally kill the taste of the green. Add a frozen banana for extra creaminess and you have yourself a truly delicious drink. Don’t let the color deceive you, they taste great. I know it may sounds strange, but trust me. It works. Just try it.

Salads
Moreover, leafy greens are a great center or a basis of any salad. Sweeten salads with fruit for a great flavour. Again, mango, pineapple, pear, or strawberry chunks are quite wonderful.
If you’re not in the mood for sweet, don’t be afraid to fatten up that salad! Adding avocado, olive oil, olives or coconut is great. Rubbing salt and lemon into the leaves makes them softer and ensures the scrumptiousness of every bite.
Moreover, dark green herbs such as parsley and cilantro are also a great addition to any salad.

Cocktails
You can also work some greens into veggie cocktails. Here is a quick recipe: 4 carrots, 2 tomatos, juice of 1/2 lemon and a handful of spinach yields a veggie cocktail that is a great addition to any dinner or great on its own as a snack.

Juices
And for the most efficient way to add greens to your diet, simply juice them. You will get all the benefits, minus the fiber.

So many possibilities!
The relatively mild taste of most leafy greens makes them very versatile. Use it as a wrap for a burger or taco. Add it to a soup. The possibilities are endless!

If you pick only one vegetable to buy organic, make it your green leafy vegetables. Think about the surface area upon which chemicals are sprayed – it is so large. Plus, organic greens taste so much better. Leafy greens are fairly inexpensive to buy, even organic. A gigantic head of organic spinach or kale certainly is not going to set you back too much.

If you still don’t like the taste of greens also consider that once you take out excess amounts of processed fat and refined sugar out of your diet, vegetables will become quite delicious. I think that the taste of crispy fresh kale is fantastic.
